The G.R.O.V.E.

Last week I mentioned the Solas of the Reformation, briefly identifying Sola Fide, by Faith Alone. This week we are going to look at the topic of God’s Glory. Especially as it relates to The Grove Church. James Montgomery Boice wrote a quick synopsis of the Solas. Here is what he said about Soli Deo Gloria. Glory to God alone. Each of the great solas is summed up in the fifth Reformation motto: soli Deo gloria, meaning ‘to God alone be the glory.’ It is what the apostle Paul expressed in Romans 11:36 when he wrote, ‘to Him be the glory forever! Amen.’ These words follow naturally from the preceding words, “For from him and through him and to him are all things” (v. 36), since it is because all things really are from God, and to God, that we say, ‘to God alone be the glory.’” Though this Sola is the last in the list, we have decided to put it first in our core values. It is first because it reminds us of many things. First God’s glory reminds us of the PERSON of God. In Romans 11:33-36 Paul identifies that God is to receive glory for all of His accomplishments and who He is according to His character. Recognizing His person, reminds us then how we ought to PURSUE God in a way that we are constantly aligned to him in a right POSITION. His glory establishes His supremacy and by comparison we are reminded that we are not glorious, but instead fallible. C.S. Lewis. In his article, The Weight of Glory, writes…
