Murphy’s Law! An idea that speaks to the human condition. If you think your life is supposed to be challenge free, easy, and predictable…Ha! Wake up! Your dream is over, right? Murphy is laughing. See if you can identify:

[checklist]
  • A day without a crisis is a day that is a total loss.
  • Inside every large problem is a series of little problems struggling to get out.
  • Nothing is as easy as it appears.
  • Everything will take twice as long as you predict.
  • If anything can go wrong, it will.
  • The light at the end of the tunnel is really the headlamp of a oncoming train

In this life, adversity will come. The foundation of every person will be tested. How do we cope?

Character built on shifting sand will falter. Character built on the rock of scripture and Jesus Christ will stand. That is the message of Matthew 7:24-27 (NASB):

“Everyone who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on the house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who build his house on the sand. And when the rains fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, it fell, and great was the fall of it.”

One of the best ways to build your house on the rock is a consistent devotional life. A commitment to spend time with your creator regularly. Not just on Sunday mornings during the Worship Service. A quiet time is a dedicated time with your copy of God’s Word; and God himself! Monday through Saturday. Perhaps five to ten minutes for some. You might even develop a habit of 15-30 minutes. You and your Lord can decide…

Rock Solid living, despite your circumstances, is possible. A quite time (devotional moment) is one of the primary “spiritual foundation basics” that helps you. It also is an avenue God uses to mold you into his “Rock Solid” image.

C’mon, you can do it!
